We met because hockey...

When AirTran was bought by Southwest in 2014, John moved from Orlando to Dallas to work in the SWA headquarters. New to the area, John joined a beer league hockey team as a free agent and met his new teammate, Jeremy Ursi. 

 Meanwhile, Katie began a new job with a law firm in Dallas where she met Vicky Ursi, Jeremy's wife. Vicky and Jeremy had been getting to know John and thought he should meet Katie. 

John and Katie had their first date on July 14, 2014. Already talking about places they'd love to visit, they decided to go to Trinity Hall Irish Pub since they couldn't fly to the real Ireland.  Katie ate mashed potatoes and John kept Katie laughing with all his  stories. 

Their second, sixth, seventh, ninth, sixteenth, and twentienth dates were hockey games.
